I noticed the insularity of everything.

I noticed the archipelagic nature of everything.

An island will always be a part of an archipelago. 

This endless inclusion relationship reminds me of the mathematical concept of a set. Unlike mathematical sets, the inclusion relationship that exists between archipelagos and islands is loose, overlapping, and artificially defined; it is an inclusion relationship among concepts. An [insert concept] archipelago is the name of an infinite set of known related concepts. When talking about the [Zhoushan] archipelago, the [Zhoushan] archipelago can always be replaced by the [Chusan] archipelago, the [ship] archipelago, or the [insert concept] archipelago, all of which can refer to the same set of concepts.

The [insert concept] archipelago is quite personal. The expansion of the [insert concept] archipelago is based on personal exploration.

One day, I learned about a cruise ship, SS Chusan, built by P&O in 1949 and named after my hometown Zhoushan (translated by Wu Chinese). It (SS Chusan) became part of the [insert concept] archipelago.

A series of questions can be asked based on the new Island (Concept).

e.g. Why did P&O name the ship after Chusan?

      Why did P&O name the ship using Wu Chinese instead of mandarin?

      Why does P&O even know about Chusan?

      What happened to SS Chusan?

      …

These questions lead me to the rarely known colonial history of my hometown, where the British occupied Chusan for 5 years after the first opium war (1840-46). The British warship deployed in the invasion: HMS Wesley, HMS Wellesley, HMS Conway, HMS Alligator, and HMS Rattlesnake shared the same maritime flag with SS Chusan due to the reassignment of the red ensign flag from the British royal navy to British merchantmen.  Those became parts of the [insert concept] archipelago.

A series of questions can be asked based on the new Islands (Concepts). The questioning does not follow a linear logical progression, nor does it follow a particular research question. It resembles a traveler drifting in an unknown space, just drifting.

 The archipelago continues to expand.

岛屿永远都会是群岛的一部分。

这种无穷无尽的包含关系让我联想到了数学上的集合概念。不同于数学集合，存在于群岛和岛屿之间的包括关系是松散，重叠且人为界定的，它更偏向于概念上的包括。[插入概念]群岛 是一个由已知相关概念组成的无限集合的名称。当谈及[舟山]群岛 时，[舟山]群岛 总是可以用 [Chusan]群岛、[船]群岛 或 [插入概念]群岛 来代替，它们都可以指代同一个“概念集合”。

[插入概念]群岛 是相当私人的。[插入概念]群岛是基于个人的探索而扩展的。

 有一天，我了解到P&O公司在1949年建造的一艘游轮SS Chusan，是以我的家乡舟山（吴语音译）命名的。它（SS Chusan）成为了[插入概念]群岛的一部分。

 根据新的岛屿（概念）我提出了一系列的问题。

 例如：为什么P&O公司用Chusan命名这艘船？

          为什么P&O用吴语而不是普通话来命名这艘船？

          为什么P&O公司知晓舟山的存在？

          SS Chusan上发生了什么？

          ...

这些问题将我引向家乡鲜为人知的殖民历史，在第一次鸦片战争后，英国人占领了舟山5年（1840-46）。由于英国皇家海军使用的红船旗（Red Ensign Flag）之后重新分配给了英国商船使用，当年入侵时部署的英国军舰： 卫斯理号、韦尔斯利号、康威号、鳄鱼号和响尾蛇号（ HMS Wesley, HMS Wellesley, HMS Conway, HMS Alligator, and HMS Rattlesnake ）与SS Chusan跨越时空的使用了同一面旗帜。 这些成了[插入概念]群岛的一部分。

根据新的岛屿（概念）我又提出了一系列的问题。这些问题的提出并不遵从线性的逻辑发展，也不遵从某个特定的研究问题，就如在未知空间里漂流的旅客，飘到哪里就是哪里。
